Job Description:

 

Mandatory Qualifications:

 

1. Minimum 5 years project management experience with at least 3 years in technology project management.  This needs to be true project management experience, not lower-level experience that is subsequently re-cast as “project manager”.
2. Must have experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
3. Bachelors of Science Degree or equivalent work experience.
4. Candidates need to have appropriate project management IT background as well as business-facing experience. 
5. Experience managing technology development projects focused on the end-to-end delivery of new applications, systems & enhancements for the business.
6. Must have effective presentation and facilitation skills and be able to communicate with all levels of leadership.
7. Experience with planning, coordination, status reporting and communication plan of projects for entire project life cycle.  
8. Experience managing project costs, resources, sizings, change requests, risks and issues to ensure that maximum business benefits are maintained.
9. Experience providing regular project status updates and reports
10. Experience developing project plans and ensuring that the scope and approach are fully understood by all stakeholders.

 

11. Experience identifying and tracking key project milestones (base-lining critical path).
12. Experience ensuring that all systems of record for project reporting are kept current, and directing and monitoring work efforts on a regular basis.
13. Experience with project budgets, forecasts and actuals tracking.
14. Experience reviewing Development estimates from Development Teams and actively seeking clarification/verification as appropriate.
15. Experience monitoring and communicating progress of project delivery and ensures timely and effective communication of project status in terms of cost, forecast, schedule and assessment of risks/issues.
16. Experience negotiating and influencing cross-functional teams to ensure appropriate resourcing levels are engaged and maintained throughout the course of the development life cycle.  Includes alignment of roles and responsibilities.
17. Experience proactively anticipating project risks and ensuring adequate mitigation is put in place, if chosen to fund, to ensure delivery is not compromised.
18. Experience ensuring effective change control procedures and processes are efficiently used to maintain control on scope, schedule and cost
19. Experience overseeing the Test Manager and Test Phase for projects.
20. Experience overseeing quality assurance and ensuring appropriate levels of end-to-end testing resources across the project are deployed.

 

21. Experience facilitating post-implementation reviews and ensuring lessons learned are carried forward appropriately.
22. Strong leader, communicator, negotiator, problem solver, decision maker and ability to influence.
23. Strong thought leader, who can work at a detailed level to anticipate and identify issues, develop solutions and follow through to completion.
24. Possess high motivation, enthusiasm and dedication to deliver results within strict time-frames. Independent self-starter, a team builder, a team player and a collaborator.
25. Skill with MS Office and MS Project is required. 
26. Strong knowledge of technology development skills being managed.
27. Experience with Technical/Project Management governance tool set/processes.

 

Preferred/Nice to Have Qualifications:

 

• Banking/Financial Services industry background (2 to 5 years)
• Service industry background (as opposed to manufacturing industry)

 

• Experience with American Express technical systems and project management/governance tool set/processes.
• Project Management Institute certification (PMP) is a plus.
• Experience working with out-source partners is a plus. 
• Knowledge of Six-Sigma concepts is a plus.
