Job Title               : Support/ Operations Engineer
Location               : NYC
Length                  : 6 months

 
Responsibilities
·        Anticipate, diagnose and solve problems with our trading platform and client front-end.
·        Interface daily with clients and internal coverage teams in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment; there is considerable exposure to the trading desks and a key requirement is the ability to build strong user relationships
·        Proactive management and monitoring of our environment, together with extensive problem identification, ownership, resolution or escalation
·        Managing significant system outages, directing activities of all development and infrastructure teams to resolve production issues
·        Drive initiatives that continue to improve the availability, stability, and performance of the system
·        Closely cooperating and collaborating with development, test engineering, product, and client coverage teams
·        Work with developers on supportability designs, application optimization and performance tuning
·        Monitor the production application environment for problems and to diagnose where those problems are
·        Work with engineering teams to maintain a scalable, reliable, and robust environment
·        Drive the improvement cycle from Operations back into development and vice versa
·        Measuring, maintaining, and reporting appropriate SLAs across products to internal and external partners
·        Provide 24x5.5 escalated on-call support on rotation
 
Relevant Skills
·        Knowledge of modern scripting languages (Bash, Python, Perl, Ruby) and SQL
·        Experience with mission-critical trading or other real-time system architectures with significant uptime and reliability expectations
·        Experience with full stack application support and troubleshooting, and ideally with external-facing clients
·        Detailed knowledge of Linux systems (RHEL, CentOS)
·        Have experience working with Virtual machines (vmware, kvm, xen)
·        Experience in a "continuous deployment" environment
·        Experience with configuration management systems and concepts (Chef, Puppet, Cfengine, etc.)
·        Hands-on experience with logging, monitoring, and alerting tools such as Nagios, Zenoss, Splunk, OpenNMS, Graphite, Cacti, etc.
·        Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
